Day of Defeat: Palermo

Today Valve have released a major update to the WWII themed Day of Defeat: Source, with a massive update including a move to the Orange Box engine as used by TF2, the introduction of a new map, a stack of new features and a free weekend of DoD for those who are yet to make the purchase.

Some of the new features include:

- Steam Community avatars will now appear next to each player name in the scoreboard, on the end-of-round panel, and as part of the newly-added freeze cam.
- There are now 51 unique achievements that you can earn for your play in-game.
- Day of Defeat: Source players can now show off their own stats and achievement progress in the Steam Community.
- Tired of getting killed by snipers without being able to tell where the fire is coming from? Day of Defeat: Source now has a freeze camera of your attacker, which will let you know where they are (or where they were).

The free weekend will be happening this weekend from the 4th until the 6th (US time), so now is a good time to preload the game and give it a go this weekend if you haven't checked it out before.

We've updated and added some more DoD servers to the 3FL server line-up, so be sure to head over to the Serverspy to check them out.

Full details of the patch are available after the jump.

A post up on the TF2's official blog has announced that the next class to receive the make over unlockable treatment will be the mini-gun wielding Heavy class. The team at Valve have opened up the unlockable's design process a bit and have documented some of the design issues faced by Valve's team when considering the Heavy's weapon/class update.

No ETA on when this new content will be made live, again also no word on when such content updates will be made available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 market who are yet to receive any content updates for TF2.

Team Fortress 2 update

Jul 02 2008 09:51

TF2 update

Valve have released another update for TF2 this morning. This update brings with it the following changes (mainly fixes):
- Fixed backburner's flame critical hits not being recalculated after
collision. This meant that it would check if the target was looking away
once and after that the flame could score a critical hit again even if
the orientation changed
- Added back some damage falloff to the Pyro's flamethrower. Not nearly as extreme as it was before the Pyro class pack
- Fixed bug that caused Demomen to take a small amount of extra damage from their own grenades and fly farther using them
- Fixed spy getting stuck in players after removing his disguise
- Fixed spy stabbing and being able to go invisible instantly
- Fixed spy disguised as enemy medic being able to spam voice commands
- Fixed buffed health not decaying properly after being healed by a dispenser
- Selectable menus can now be operated with number keys even if they are not bound to slot1, slot2, etc.
- Removed the remaining speed adjustments for carrying intelligence (a couple of game modes still reduced your maxspeed)
- Fixed a buildable item placement bug where the object would not rotate after the user tried to place in an invalid location

All of the 3FL TF2 servers have been updated, so you can get back to it asap.

Diablo III announced

Jun 30 2008 11:17

Diablo 3

During the weekend, Blizzard have officially announced that they are currently working on a third game in the Diablo universe - aptly named Diablo III. Diablo 3 has been rumoured for quite a while, with them picking up the domain Diablo3.com from a fan site a few months back and the teaser campaign that started late last week on Blizzard.com with a splash screen that was changing daily.
Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both Heaven and Hell, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. The first two characters classes -- the barbarian and the witch doctor -- were shown as part of the announcement at the event today in Paris.

Further details of the full announcement are after the jump.

3FL is proud to finally announce the launch of player stats for Counter-strike: Source and Team Fortress 2. Player stats allow you to track not only your personal score and playing style, but you'll be effectively ranked against each player who has connected to any of 3FL's CS:S or TF2 servers.

Statistics such as how many times you've defused the bomb, how many times you've killed a hostage, headshot count and what your favourite weapons are kept all on record. The stats system is searchable, so feel free to check out that spy who dominated you just moments ago in TF2.

To access the Player Stats Page, mouse over the "Servers" tab on the top navigation bar.

Player stats are recorded through HLstatsX, to find out more information on how the stats system works please refer to our help section.
